How do I start the certification process for my small business?

The first step in any Small Business Certification process would be to have an active and compliant registration in SAM. That is essential as it is the money portal for the government, tracking where it goes, to who, and for what. You will also need to make sure that you qualify as a small business, meeting the SBA (Small Business Administration) size standards based on your NAICS code, average annual revenue, and number of full-time employees.

To begin the process, have a professional like a Certified Registration Specialist guide you through the registration and certification. Completing for the first time can be tedious, time-consuming, and frustrating. A CRS will be directly assigned to your business as the direct point of contact through the whole process.

USBRI has been assisting small businesses with federal contracting registrations and certifications for over 11 years. If you are unsure if you are registered in SAM or if you qualify for a small business certification, click either of the two buttons below.

What is a small business certification, and why is it important?

A small business certification is an extra step that can be taken to ensure you are getting the most out of your federal contracting and grant registration. If you have successfully registered in SAM, you may qualify for a Small Business Certification.  The SBA sets “size standards” for businesses that can be considered for small business certifications,

A small business certification can be extremely beneficial to your company, especially if you are looking to take on more business as a federal contractor. Being registered in the small business database will ensure that prime contractors can find you based on your NAICS Code and/or other factors, narrowing down the pool of competition significantly.
