How does a business qualify for the HUBZone Certification?

The qualifications for a HUBZone Certification consist of:

    • Principle office must be located in a HUBZone
    • 35% of all FTE must reside in a HUBZone
    • Person applying must be a U.S. citizen
    • Must meet SBA Size Standards
    • Have an ACTIVE and compliant SAM Registration

What is the HUBZone Certification, and what are its primary benefits?

The HUBZone Certification program is a small business set-aside certification that is presented by the Small Business Administration (SBA). There are many benefits to being HUBZone certified, but it’s primary one is being awarded contracts that specifically go to HUBZone certified businesses. There are certain federal contracts or grants that must be awarded to those in a HUBZone. so if you are certified you will be a recipient of them.

How do you reactivate an inactive SAM Registration?

To renew an expired SAM, you have two options:

    • Renew on your own using online resources to guide you (burden of time: 2-3 months)
    • Going through a firm such as USBRi to take over the registration process for you, only pulling you in when absolutely necessary (burden of time: 2-3 weeks).

What address can you use for SAM?

Unfortunately, you cannot use a virtual address for your SAM Registration. The physical or principal address on the registration must be where your business’s books and records are kept.

How do you find out what your NAICS code is?

To find out the NAICS codes that are in your SAM, follow the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, select “Check SAM Status & Details” in red
    • Input your company’s legal business name, CAGE code, or UEI and solve the algebraic addition problem
    • Allow the page to load and you will see a brief summary of your SAM Registration that includes:
      • NAICS Codes
      • POC’s
      • Expiration Date
      • and more

Why are NAICS codes necessary with SAM?

NAICS codes are necessary when registering in SAM so grant and contracting officers can know what type of service you provide. NAICS codes consist of 6 digits and are assigned by the Census.gov. How long does it take to receive a CAGE code?

CAGE Code Timeframe

Typically when a SAM is processed a CAGE code is given to the business 2-3 weeks after it’s been approved.

The CAGE Code search can be found by following the steps below:

    • Solve the security questions and select “Check SAM Status NOW”

What is a SAM Registration number?

SAM Registration Number

Once a business has completed the registration process and their SAM is approved. A CAGE code (Commercial and Government Entity), is then generated and issued to the entity.

The CAGE Code search can be found by following the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, select “Check SAM & UEI Status” in red
    • Input your company’s legal business name or UEI
    • Solve the security questions and select “Check SAM Status NOW”
    • Allow the page to generate a brief summary of your SAM Registration including information such as:

How do you know when your SAM expires?

When does SAM Expire?

To determine the expiration date of your SAM registration, you can follow these steps below:

  1. Navigate to the top of this page and click on the red button titled “Check SAM Expiration Now
  2. Enter your UEI, CAGE Code or Company Name and click ‘Check SAM Status Now’
  3. Results displayed include Expiration Date, Legal Business Name, Legal & Mailing Addresses, UEI, CAGE Code, SAM Status, Purpose of Registration, PSC Codes, NAICS Codes, Business Types, Electronic POC and Government POC
  4. Click on ‘Renew Registration Now‘ if expired or ready to proceed with annual renewal

Is there a tool to look up my UEI?

UEI Lookup Tool

Your UEI is viewable on your entity’s registration record in SAM.gov. You can also use the tool by following the steps below:

  • Navigate to the top of the page and select “Check SAM & UEI Status” in red
  • Enter your company’s name, UEI or CAGE code (if known) to locate the registration
  • Allow the page to refresh and a quick summary of your SAM Registration will load including your SAM Expiration, UEI, CAGE Code, POCs, NAICS Codes, etc.
