Where can I look up NAICS codes for different industries?

To lookup NAICS Codes for different industries, follow the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, hover over “Tools & Resources”
    • Select “NAICS Code Lookup Tool”
    • Put in a keyword or phrase and select “Find NAICS Code”
    • A list of NAICS Codes based on the keyword or phrase you had input will appear

Purpose of NAICS Codes

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is a numeric coding system used by federal agencies to classify businesses for a variety of purposes. In reference to SAM Registrations (as well as Small Business Certifications), a NAICS code is used to identify the type of service your business provides. Additionally, a prime contractor can search you up in the Small Business Database by NAICS code and you will be one of the companies that come up, which would increase the likelihood of being chosen for a federal contract.

The NAICS (North American Industry Classification System) code is a two or six-digit numeric code that federal statistical agencies use to classify businesses into industries. They are often used when identifying what a business does in terms of the service provided.

When referring to NAICS codes with SAM Registrations, they are required so prime contracts can be able to find you easily in the Small Business Database (if you qualify).

Does every LLC have a NAICS code?

Not every LLC will have a NAICS Code. Only those required by their state or registered in SAM will have a NAICS code.

How to find a company’s NAICS code?

To find a company’s NAICS Codes, follow the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, select “Check UEI Status”
    • After the page loads, select either UEI, CAGE Code, or Full Legal Business Name
      • Legal Business Name must be EXACT or it will not show up
    • Answer the security question and select “Check SAM Status NOW”
    • Allow the page to generate a brief summary of your SAM Registration that includes
      •  Primary NACIS Codes
      • UEI and/or CAGE Code
      • PSC and FSC Codes
      • Primary POC’s
      • and more
    • If you did not get the results back or they are wrong, contact the USBRI Help Desk at 1-888-646-9998 and a CRS will be able to assist you with what you need.
