Does every business have a CAGE Code?

Any business that plans to bid on federal contracts or grants MUST be registered in SAM and have a CAGE Code. If you are registered in SAM and unsure if you have a CAGE Code or know what yours is, follow the steps below:

    • Input your company’s legal business name (CAGE Code or UEI if known)

Can you use EIN instead of DUNS number?

No, an EIN and DUNS are two separate identification. EIN is the Employer Identification Number assigned by the IRS and the DUNS number is is the former identification (replaced by UEI in 2022) used by SAM. If you are unsure of what your UEI number may be, use the tool by following the steps below:

Who needs an NCAGE code?

Any entity located outside of the U.S. and its’ territories must have an NCAGE code assigned by NATO. If you are unsure if you have a CAGE Code or not, follow the steps below:

What is the purpose of a CAGE code?

According to the DLA, the purpose of a CAGE Code is to provide a standardized method of identifying a given facility at a specific location. If you are unsure of what your CAGE code is, follow the steps below:

Is a CAGE code the same as a DUNS number?

No, a CAGE Code is not the same thing as a DUNS number. CAGE Codes are assigned by DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) while the DUNS number was the old identification system, replaced by UEI in 2022. If you are unsure of your UEI or CAGE Code, follow the steps below:
