How many digits is a UEI number?

The UEI Number is a 12-character alphanumerical ID. There is no specific pattern to how the UEI is presented.

What is the meaning of SAM number?

What is a SAM Number?

The “SAM” or “SAMs” number refers to either the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) or CAGE Code assigned by the DLA. The UEI and CAGE Code are both identification codes used when you are applying for any federal contracts or grants. The way to obtain a UEI or CAGE Code is by registering an entity into SAM and going through the validation processes.

Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)

In 2022, the DUNS number was phased out and replaced my SAM’s own UEI. It is a string of 12 alphanumerical characters and is the identification assigned by SAM so business’s can be begin the process of doing with the federal government. If you need to apply for any grants, you must have a UEI.

Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Code

CAGE Codes are assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency. The DLA assigns CAGE Codes to entities registered in SAM who want to bid on contracts as well as grants.
