How do I find my company’s NAICS code for free?

To find your company’s NAICS Code, all you need to do is use the SAM Status Lookup Tool. Follow the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, select “Check SAM & UEI Status
    • Input your company’s legal business name, UEI, or CAGE Code
    • Solve the security question and select “Check SAM Status NOW”
    • Allow the page to generate a brief summary of your SAM Registration that will include:
      • NAICS Codes
      • Expiration Date (if within 60 days, begin the renewal process NOW)
      • CAGE Code and UEI
      • PSC and FSC Codes
      • POC’s
      • and more

Can you choose your own NAICS Codes?

Yes. Anyone can choose their own NAICS code for their business. Use the NAICS Code Lookup Tool to find what NAICS code you need by following the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, hover over “Tools & Resources” and select the fist option “NAICS Code Lookup Tool
    • Input a keyword, phrase, or NAICS code and select “Find NAICS Code”
    • Allow the page to generate NAICS codes closely related to the information you submitted
    • If you are not satisfied with the results, reach out the USBRI Help Desk at 1-888-646-9998

NAICS Codes: Does it matter which ones you use?

When NAICS are applied to your business via a SAM Registration, you want to make sure they pertain to the type of business and service you provide. Use the NAICS Code Lookup Tool to find what NAICS code you need by following the steps below:

When was DUNS transferred to UEI?

DUNS Number: When did it change to UEI?

Back in 2022, the DUNS numbers where dissolved and switched to SAM’s own identification system known as the UEI (Unique Entity Identifier). You should have received an email when the change happened stating what your UEI is for your entity.  If you did not, follow the step below:

    • At the top of this page, select “Check SAM & UEI Status
    • Input your company’s LEGAL BUSINESS NAME or CAGE Code
    • Solve the security question and select “Check SAM Status NOW”
    • The page will generate a brief summary of your SAM Registration which will include:
      • UEI Number
      • Expiration Date (if within 60 days, begin the renewal process NOW)
      • NAICS, PSC, and FSC Codes
      • POC’s
      • and more

Why do I have multiple NAICS Codes?

Multiple NAICS Codes: Why are they there and are they necessary?

The reason a business would have multiple NAICS codes would be because that is the amount that was entered when doing the SAM Registration. You may provide multiple services where you need multiple NAICS codes for. A business is required, when registering in SAM, to have one primary NAICS code. After that, you are able to add as many as you would like. 3-5 is typically the standard amount you want to have.
