How to get a NAICS Code

To get a NAICS codes, a couple of things need to happen. First, you need to identify what your NAICS code is (you can use the NAICS Code Lookup Tool). Second, you will need to have a SAM Registration for your business.

If you are unsure if you have a SAM Registration or what NAICS codes are tied to yours, follow the steps below:

• • At the top of this page, select “Check SAM & UEI Status”
  • Input your company’s legal business name, CAGE Code, or UEI
  • Select “Check SAM Status NOW” in blue
  • Allow the page to generate a summary of your SAM Registration that will include
    • Primary NAICS Codes
    • UEI and CAGE Code
    • Expiration Date (if it’s within 60 days, begin the renewal process NOW)
    • PSC and FSC Codes
    • Designated POC’s
    • and more

The best NAICS Code for a business is one that directly identifies the services said business provides. Whether it be construction, landscaping, roofing, catering, or IT work, you want to make sure the NAICS code is representing what your business does and provides as a service.

If you are unsure what kind of NAICS code applies to your business, use the lookup tool by following the steps below:

• • At the top of this page. hover over “Tools & Services” and select the first option “NAICS Code Lookup Tool”
  • Input a NAICS code, keyword, or phrase and select “Find NAICS Code”
  • If there is a matching NAICS code to what your put in the box, they will generate on the bottom of the page giving the NAICS code and what the NAICS code is for.
