EIN vs. UEI

No, your UEI number is a specific string of alphanumerical characters assigned to each entity registered in SAM. An EIN number is a number assigned by the IRS in regards to a business’ taxes.

How many NAICS codes can you have?

While entities usually have one “primary” NAICS code, there is no limit to the amount of NAICS codes can be assigned to one entity.

Does SAM require notarized letters?

Due to new policies, each entity registration must have an ‘Entity Administrator’. If the entity admin from a previous registration is no longer with your business or  you would like to appoint a new one, you will need to prepare a notarized letter designating who you would like to be said entity administrator.

What do I need for my SAM registration?

To prepare for the SAM registration process of your entity, not much is required. Basic entity information like physical address, owner, and your dba (doing business as) are good to have on hand and ready to go when starting the process. You may also want to establish a primary NAICS code as well.

Can a sole-proprietor register in SAM.gov?

Sole proprietors may use their Social Security Number (SSN) assigned by the Social Security Administration (SSA) as their TIN to register in SAM.gov.

How long does it take to get a CAGE Code?

Approximately 4-5 business days after your SAM application is approved, NCAGE/CAGE Codes will be assigned and delivered by e-mail.

Do subcontractors need a CAGE Code?

There is no simple answer to the question of whether subcontractors need a CAGE code or not. It is dependent on the individual contract between the subcontractor, prime contractor, and the federal government. For individual cases, consult with the agent of the government entity contracting the project to learn more about the requirements for your subcontracting job.
