What documents do I need to validate my business for SAM?

Any document you may need to validate your entity must include the legal business name, physical address, and/or formation date.

How small can my business be to register to SAM?

Any business or sole proprietor is able to register for SAM.gov However, to be considered a small business you must meet the Small Business Sized Standards set forth by the SBA (Small Business Administration).

When you’re registered in SAM.gov you will be able to obtain small business certifications as long as you meet the requirements.

How can I view my Unique Entity ID or entity registration record?

To view your UEI and/or entity registration summary, follow the steps below:

    • At the top of this page, select “Check SAM & UEI Status”
    • Input your company’s Legal Business Name or CAGE Code
    • Solve the security question and select “Check SAM Status NOW”
    • Allow the page to generate a brief summary of your SAM Registration that includes:
      • UEI
      • Expiration Date
      • Primary NAICS Codes
      • PSC and FSC Codes
      • POC’s
      • and more

What are set aside contracts?

The federal government sets aside a portion of funding to certain small business certified companies. For example 5% of federal funding is allocated to certified Woman Owned Small Businesses and 3% goes to HUBZone Certified Businesses.

Before obtaining a set aside certification, you’ll want to get acquainted with federal contracting. USBRI recommends getting a Small Business Certification before set asides.
