How long does it take to get a CAGE code with SAM?

CAGE Code: How long does it take to get one?

The time it takes to get a CAGE (Commercial and Government Entity) code through the System for Award Management (SAM) varies depending on several factors. Typically, the process follows these steps:

  1. SAM Registration: First, you need to register your business with SAM. This can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks depending on how quickly you complete and submit the necessary information.
  2. IRS Validation: After submitting your SAM registration, the information needs to be validated, including your business’s legal details and banking information. This step can take between 3 to 10 business days.
  3. CAGE Code Assignment: Once SAM registration is validated, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) assigns a CAGE code. This typically takes 5 to 10 business days, but in some cases, it can take longer if there are issues or discrepancies in the registration information.

In general, you should expect the entire process, from registration to receiving your CAGE code, to take 4-6 weeks if completed on your own. However, this can be expedited with the help of a CRS (Certified Registration Specialist) and take 2-4 weeks with communication and correct documentation.
